(ABOUT LIBERATING CINEMA)
We unlock the power of storytelling, inspiring personal growth, advancing collective economic empowerment, and creating social impact through shared imagination.
(our purpose)
More than moving pictures on the silver screen. Liberating Cinema is a space to…
Create:001
Our storytelling courses, teaching tools and experiences cultivate critical consciousness and empathy.
Curate:002
Our film initiatives and productions invest in and elevate diverse voices and narratives, providing a platform for underrepresented filmmakers to present their work to wider audiences.
Convene:003
Our events bring communities together to produce and share creative work, access resources and opportunities, and build networks of support.
Converse:004
Our publications and presentations discuss ideas, research findings, and new works to advance the cinematic arts and society.
(WHAT WE DO)
Our
Projects
Youth Filmmaking Workshop
Our flagship program is our youth film production workshop. Though the experience is designed for youth of all backgrounds, we focus on reaching communities where young people have little to no access to cinema or filmmaking opportunities.
Designed to bridge the gap between talent and opportunity, we gather once a month for Call Time.
The Creative Research Studio is a dynamic platform designed to merge academic insight with cinematic exploration.
Imagination Shared.Film, education, and social change.Thought, research, experiences and content.“We have to talk about liberating minds as well asliberating society.” - Angela Davis.
(CREW LOVE)
“The value in being a part of Liberating Cinema is the concept of horizontal knowledge exchange. I have quite appreciated working across ages, therefore experiences with other artists.

Bonnie Libuke
Being a member of the Creatives Collective has been a great use of my time. Everyone in the group is eager to grow, and that positive energy rubs off on me as well. It has helped me build connections, improve my confidence as an artist, and feel comfortable being vulnerable, which is also key to learning about filmmaking and storytelling. I'm excited about the future and happy to be part of this movement.
